Steelville is known as the floating capital of Missouri. With good reason, because one can choose to float the Courtois, Huzzah or Meramec Rivers within a 10-mile radius. These are crystal clear spring fed streams, a great way to cool down on a hot summer day. River Oaks Ranch is ideally located for floating—the entrance to the ranch lies in a geographic area called the Narrows, where the Courtois Creek and Huzzah Creek converge. We are also 10 minutes from two of the largest river outfitters in Missouri. Since our property adjoins the Courtois, you can chose a float that either begins or ends on the ranch property. For a 14-mile, all-day trip, floaters can leave from the Berryman Campground and reach River Oaks Ranch in 5 to 8 hours—or from Blunt Road for a 7-mile trip that takes about 4 to 5 hours. If you prefer to leave from the property, you can float 6 miles to Scotia (3 to 4 hours) or 11 miles to Onondaga Cave (6 to 7 hours). Floaters can also leave from Berryman for an all-day float to River Oaks Ranch and float again the next day to Onondaga Cave (25 miles). With advance notice shuttle service can be arranged for your trips. |

If you plan to use the services of either Huzzah Valley or Bass, you can contact us in advance and let us know what you need. We can then make the arrangements for you.

Onondaga Cave State Park |
|
Missouri is called the Cave State because of its more than 5,500 caves. But Onondaga Cave stands out from the rest. Onondaga's huge natural chamber is full of stalagtites, stalagmites and other colorful deposits. Onondaga Cave State Park is about a 30-minute drive from the River Oaks Ranch. Tours last just over an hour and cover almost a mile of underground passages. The cave is open from 9am to 5pm from March 1 to October 31.
